I want to set the record straight. Here is the total and complete truth on the events in the Jr Class Saturday Night. We pulled into tech, Top 5 that is, Willy told us all that the Top 3 needed to pull their motors off and the other two wait. The Top 3 where 5, 17, 35. 4th was us, 5L, and the 4 5th. Willy began to tech the top 3, pulling valve covers off and checking cam lift. He checked the 17 first, taking roughly 30 minutes to check it. He passed it, then he went to the 5, taking about 15 minutes he passed it. He then began to work in the 35. Taking close to a hour, he said it was not right. Arron Smith had to go race, so he went and we where told to pull our motor. We did and put it on the table. We all had a funny feeling things where not going right during tech with the length of time it took to check the others. He worked on ours with Lee Cromwell right there as well and said our motor was not right either. He then began to tech the 4 car.
We where told our motor was going to be DQ'd along with the 35. We went to go get our trailer and load up and left. I mentioned I wanted to appeal this because I knew our motor was 100% in compliance! As I am driving home, a person from the track contacted me and informed me that Willy took the 35 motor into his position and would be taking it to Fairfield Motorsports Monday morning for further checks. I felt we should have been extended the same curtousy and started making phone calls right away to find out why we could not have done the same thing. I spoke to Rodney at 3am who made some calls for me and reached Dean. We where told to have our motor back to Fairfield Monday morning for further check. I wanted to take it right then but was told to just being it Monday per Willy. I drove to Denver Sunday Night Monday morning for work and my wife was at FMS at 8 am Monday and met Willy. Willy then verified that that was the motor we had on our car Saturday and that it was still in sealed condition like it was when it left Saturday. (We only own one motor..Sold our Scott Motor 2 months ago)
Willy, Steve and my wife go inside and the start teching the exact same thing Willy did at the track. The 35's motor passed after Steve's inspection. Ours was next and it also passed according to Steve's inspection. My wife verified with Steve and Willy that he being Willy made a few mistakes in the tech procedure at the track Saturday.
So with that being said, YES we did take our motor home from the race track. But with what transpired at FMS, and Willy admiring to making a mistake in tech on the degree wheel, the 35 should have passed at the track and our motor never taken off the car and never put in this position.
That is exactly how this whole Jr Sprint DQ situation played out and according to Willy was over turned after the tech procedure at FMS.
Hopefully this clears the air. We DO NOT CHEAT! Never will! I do not teach my child to be a cheater!
